An organisation is the tenant: the account that holds a company's sites, people and records. This page describes what the first administrator sees when an organisation is created in the application.

Creating the organisation

The sign-in screen has a Create organization link. The form asks for a first name, last name, work email, a password (typed twice, with a strength indicator), a country and the Organization name.

  • Password. At least 15 characters and no more than 72, not easy to guess, not containing the email address, and not the organisation's name.
  • Confirm your email. The application then asks the person to confirm their email address: the sign-up form tells the person to check the address they entered for a confirmation link "to finish setting up your account". A person who is signed in with an unconfirmed address sees "Verify your email".
  • The organisation is created. Where sign-up signs the person straight in, the application says "Account created — setting up your organization…" and creates the organisation with the name that was entered. Where email confirmation is required first, the name is not carried over and the person is asked for it again under "Continue organization setup". The person who creates the organisation becomes its administrator; the message "Organization created — you are its administrator" appears only when the organisation is created from that setup screen.

If a person has been invited to an organisation instead, they see "You've been invited to join" and accept the invitation; see User provisioning.

A person who signs in and belongs to no organisation sees "Continue organization setup" and can create one there. A person who belongs to several is put into the stored or first one, and sees "Choose an organization" only when the stored selection is no longer valid.

The plan step

Before the application opens, the organisation needs a plan. Only an administrator sees the choices: a free plan, an evaluation period, or a paid plan completed through a checkout with a monthly or annual cadence, and a way to contact sales. The screen is headed "Test mode — no real charges". A free plan has low ceilings on sites, people and cameras, and they apply from the start. If the organisation has no plan and the person is not an administrator, the screen says "Awaiting organization setup" and tells them an administrator has to choose one. Plans, prices and limits are on the pricing page, not here.

Two-step verification

An administrator or editor is asked to set up an authenticator app at the next sign-in or page reload once they hold an administrator or editor membership; the sign-up itself is not blocked. See Multi-factor authentication.

What comes next

  1. Create the first site: Your first site.
  2. Invite people: User provisioning.
  3. Add cameras: Cameras and data sources.

What setup records

Creating an organisation records the organisation, makes its creator an active administrator, and writes audit entries for both. The "organisation created" entry is not shown in the System Trail; the entry for the owner appears there. Any signed-in person can create an organisation. Data is separated by organisation from that point; see Tenant isolation.
